Buddhist practice calls for a deep mediation on positive things. Meditation brought a form of escape from this life, which is a world of suffering. It was a necessity in order to improve one's desiny, to draw closer and close to a level of spirituality called Nirvana, which may not be able to be reached in this lifetime for a practicing Buddhist.
God's Word, which Gautama Buddha never had the privilege of hearing for himself, says that His Word should be meditated on. Psalm 1 says: 2 Blessed is the man who has his delight is in the law of the LORD,And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
Jesus, the Son of the Living God, the ICON of the Father, the Lord who is One with His Father and God the Holy SPirit, often meditated and spoke with His Father in Heaven: God the Father.
Jesus has paid a price which had to be paid in order for you to enjoy a deep intimate relationship with God the Father. You are blessed by hearing Him in your mediation. Jesus says that He is the Good Shepherd, and His sheep hear His voice. He promises the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, to be with you and to guide you into all truth. Jesus says that His Words are straight from His Father and that these words He shares are truth and life, and that this truth will set you free. Free from slavery to sin and its ultimate consequences. You will be blessed by meditating on His promises to you, and the hope of being with Him. In fact, when you meditate on the Lord and His Word, you open yourself up to the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
The teaching of Buddha can be very fatalistic in that the hope of Nirvana experience to end the cycle of life. After this, Buddha did not know what to expect. The hope is that the soul's experience in a world of suffering would end, but many iterations may be necessary if you'd ever taste it. The solution to the world of suffering is to end it all.
Jesus promises the one who follows Him and His Word, which comes straight from the Father God, will guarantee you an eternal..not a momentary/temporary..future in a place of great peace, love, and glory... a place of great knowledge and insight, and to be made perfect in nature.
Jesus knows that there will be suffering in this life. He invites you to suffer for His Name, with full knowledge that the future glory you will be rewarded for your faith that God loved you so much that He would sent His Only Begotten Son to suffer the ultimate cost for your sin which should lead you to eternal suffering with no escape. He reminds you that God can work all things together for those who love Him...even terrible stuff He can turn it around for an ultimate good.
Jesus promises to set the prisoners free.
