August 9 in Laos

Hi everyone,
FYI, Tammy and I made it safely to Vientiene, Laos.  This is the capital of the country, and this is where we are applying for a student visa to stay in Thailand for the next months.  We ran into a hiccup with the application as we have to go to the american embassy to get more pages on my passport.  Apparently when coming into the country the last page for visa was stamped, and going back into thailand they need a different page.  Bummer.  We ran into the weekend and so the office is closed sat/sun.  We need to be here til Monday and possibly Tuesday.  We are staying at a hotel near the embassy called Kham Khoun Hotel for the next 4 days.

We ended out taking some time to see the country and visiting some museums to try to understand how a country turns to communism.  It was a very eye opening visit.  Thank God America is free.

Bradtu Sai...A large arching tower with french and lao style architecture.  French colonized this area, and according to the current government historians, oppressed and abused the people of laos during their occupation of the land.

The mekong river is a large river defining the border of laos and Thailand.  this particular river isn't mekong, though.
Wang Wien has some scenic areas, including this cave which is located in a hillside.
